She passed away on Thursday, September 5, in Turkey while undergoing cancer treatment. Her family released a statement announcing her death. “It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with cancer on 5th September, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey,” read part of the statement. The family also thanked everyone who was part of the Winnie’s most difficult journey stating that more information about her death and burial will be shared with time. “We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course. God bless you all,” the family stated. Winnie Bwire has previously on April opened up about her emotional journey of battling cancer as she had appealed for financial help from well wishers to settle her medical bills. “Most of you are inboxing me asking if we’re done with the fundraiser.Thank you so much for following up and giving me the push and support needed. Being human, emotional fatigue combined with physical fatigue isn’t the best recipe for online activities. Thank you so much for reaching out,” she posted on April 30. She had also disclosed in an interview conducted at “Shajara na Lulu” that she felt a lot of pain in her armpits during her menstrual period and that’s when she visited a doctor but didn’t detect any cancerous cells. After the pain persisted that’s when she visited a gynecologist and detected the cancerous cells and like two years ago that’s when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Winnie said that the disease became worse and at some point her brain could not coordinate well.“Prior to realizing that the cancerous cells had spread, I had certain symptoms like my brain did not coordinate very well, I had constant headaches, and vomiting a lot. The symptoms aligned with the PET scan,” recalled Bwire. She stated that she feared losing her role in Sultana series after she was diagnosed with cancer because of the brainwashing concept on chemotherapy and cancer. “I thought I was going to be fired. I did not think I could shoot Sultana and still receive medication because of the brainwashing concept on chemotherapy and cancer,” she explained. Bwire stated that her condition became worse after Sultana show came to an end. The actress died barely a month after she appealed for financial assistance to continue with her treatment.
