In a statement, the DCI said that the two were ready to con the foreigner more money which pounced the DCI operations unit. The foreigner fell into wrong hands as the story began some few years ago. “The victim fell into the hands of the two scammers after he was informed by his ailing father, who had worked in Ghana, that about twenty years ago, he acquired some property in Ghana, which he later sold and left the proceeds under the custody of a trustee in Ghana.” With this information in hand, the DCI stated that the foreigner went I search of a translator. That’s when the victim met with the Ghanian lady and became her translator and ended up meeting in 2020. The lady was familiar with the foreigner’s earlier transactions and confirmed that they sold a property at approximately Sh.8 billion. But the money needed a special company to be paid to ease the transaction of money. “The Swiss national was tricked into registering a company that was to be used to transfer the money to his home country,” the DCI stated. “But not before paying taxes and facilitation money to the scammers in Ghana, Dubai, Tanzania, Uganda and later Kenya.” The foreigner was later introduced to the German national who is now arrested and later on the German national introduced the Kenyan to scam the foreigner. According to DCI, the Kenyan claimed to own a security company in Nairobi Airport which was hired to transport and store cargo in the airport. Later on, they were denied access to the containers making them part with approximately $400,000 (Sh51.6m) to the suspects. “After spending a fortune, he realised that he had been scammed, so he filed a complaint at the Kenyan Mission in Switzerland,” DCI stated. Investigations are going on through the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. The DCI sends a very strong warning to anyone whose intention is to reap where they have not sworn. “The Directorate of Criminal Investigations sends a strong warning to anyone whose mission is to reap where they have not sown, that their days are numbered,” DCI said.
