A mask vendor was shot in the head in Nairobi’s central business district by a police officer during the demonstrations against the brutal killing of blogger and teacher albert ojwang. The goons infiltrated protest turned chaotic as innocent members of the public were beaten up and robbed by the goons.

Protests against the murder of teacher and digital influencer albert ojwang turned chaotic in nairobi central business district. In an unfortunate turn of events, a mask vender who was seen standing along moi avenue was attacked by two police officers and shot dead at a close range on the head. In response, the inspector general of police has issued a directive for the police officer to be arrested with immediate effect.

“Following this incident, the Inspector-General National Police Service has ordered the immediate arrest, investigation and arraignment in court of the involved officer. The said police officer has since been arrested,” the statement read in part.

The Nairobi protest which was infiltrated by goons armed with rungus saw innocent members of the public being beaten up and robbed with having little action against them. As protesters tried proceeding to central police station, the goons pushed them back to Nairobi CBD. Later on after the running battles, the goons made their way across city hall way chanting how they have managed to keep the city safe all this directed towards nairobi governor johnson sakaja.

“Furthermore, NPS has noted a group of goons armed with crude weapons, in today’s protests within the CBD. The Service takes great exception and does not condone such unlawful groupings.”

“Such individuals will be handled firmly, according to the law. Consequently, investigations have commenced to identify and deal with the criminals accordingly,” Read part of the statement

Nevertheless, the believed goons carrying rungus said they were legitimate business persons in the area whose main aim was to prevent individuals taking advantage of the protest to loot.

Similar protests also took place in other parts of the country, including the coastal city of mombasa, where four activists were reportedly arrested by police. In kilifi, youths where ojwang lived also held demonstrations calling for Eliud Lagat’s resignation and demanding justice for blogger Albert Ojwang.

“The commission condemns the arrest of protestors including four human rights defenders in Mombasa, despite being peaceful and having duly notified the police in line with the law,” the statement read in part.

“The commission calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the protestors. The KNCHR commends the majority of the protestors for being peaceful despite attacks and provocation by the police and hired goons.”

Meanwhile, residents in kipkaren, uasin gishu county where deputy inspector general lagat’s come from, came out in his defense, with some describing him as a respectable man and urging investigative institutions to be given time to do their work.
