16 PEOPLE REPORTED DEAD AFTER BEING SHOT BY POLICE IN JUNE 25TH PROTESTS

The 25th June 2025 planned peaceful JUNE 25TH PROTESTS to remember those who lost their lives in last year’s protest turned chaotic with youths across the country coming together demanding justice for their fellow youths.

As Kenya reflects on the unfortunate events that transpired on June 25th 2024, youths across the country came together in protest in their respective counties for the first anniversary of the Kenyan youths who were killed while protesting against the 2024 finance bill. These include the counties of Nairobi, Mombasa, Machakos, Nakuru, trans-nzoia, kiambu, kisii, homabay, busia, makueni and kajiado.

In matuu town, machakos county two people are confirmed dead and seven others injured after protesters stormed matuu police station. Another body of a young man was identified lifeless in ongata rongai ongata in kajiado county.

In the middle of drama in ol kalou, nyadarua county another person was shot dead. This happened as an overpowered police officer was forced to retreat, leaving the residents to lighting candles while singing the national anthem.

Youths from kirinyaga county led by their women rep njeri maina condemned the kenya kwanza government for using excessive force on gen z across the country.

In kiambu county, the residents lit tires along on various points along thika road like the ruiru bypass while barricading other sections with chants ‘’wan term’’ filling the air. Protesters also torched kikuyu law courts, lights bonfires inside sub county and county offices in kikuyu town.

In mombasa, the protestors held prayers in the early hours of the day at ack cathedral before matching to the streets, a match that turned chaotic leading to the arrests of a number of protesters.

An unexpected occurance was witnessed in nakuru county where the protests were led by people living with disabilility.

Meanwhile in naivasha, the residents lit bonfires and blocked nakuru-naivasha highway disruption transport operations.

Neverthless, there are ignificant number of counties that were left out of the nationwide protests. These include kilifi, kisumu and migori.

The first anniversary of june 2024 massive protests was yet again marked by violent encounters between police officers and protesters with looting and road blocks by stones and burning tires witnessed in nairobi central business district.

The fierce clashes between police and protesters forced the police to use teargas to disperse the protesters. In retaliation, the protesters fiercely threw stones towards the police officers and in some instance attaching the police forcing them to flee for their lives. A female police officer whose identity is yet to be found was attacked and seriously injured on the head.

More than 150 persons have been reported injured and rushed to the hospital in the middles of running battles. This includes a woman who was hit in the mouth by a tear gas canister and man who lost his hand fater tear gas exploded on his hand and shattered it.

A Nakuru based ntv journalist Ruth samoei was also injured after police threw a tear gas canister at her.

The planned state house invasion by gen z protesters today was a total failure not as planned. The plan was neutralized following the heavy police presence around protected areas and the high level razor-wire fence cordons.
