EACC ARRESTS NATEMBEYA: EACC OFFICERS WARNS THE PROTESTANSA AGAINST OBSTRUCTION OF DUTY

NATEMBEYA IS FACING CORRUPTION ALLEGETIONS

Trans nzoia governor george natembeya has been arrested this morning after officers from ethics and anti-corruption commission eacc raided his home in kitale as part of an ongoing investigation of money embezzlement. The arrest has led to residents vandalising the eacc offices and riots in kitale town.

“Governor natembea arrested currently at eacc…advocates barred by the eacc officers from accessing the client,” natembeya’s lawyer ndegwa njiru wrote.

Havoc has escalated in kitale town this afternoon as the angry die hards of the trans nzoia governor george natembea went on an angry riot following the raiding of natembeas home at milimani area in kitale this morning which has eventually translated to his arest.

Dap-k party had earlier posted a message on its social media about the incident.

“A heavy contingent of police officers in plain clothes, well-masked, have gained access to governor george natembeya’s milimani home in kitale. Such moi tactics won’t work in current times. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” the party stated.

According to the ethics and anti-corruption commission eacc, the morning raid targeted the homes of county chief and four others, concerning alleged irregular procurement and fictious payments of 1.4 billion shillings by the county government of Trans nzoia during the 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 financial years.

“The governor is alleged to have influenced the award of tenders and received kickbacks from contractors through proxies,” said the commission in a statement signed by chief executive officer abdi mohamud

Tension has flared outside the residence as scores of natembeyas fans thronged the scene ,confronting officers and engaging in tensed stand offs with some of the commissions vehicles being vandalise by who the commission officers have reffered to as a group of rowdy youths. Police have however threw teargas in attempt to restore order.

The eacc has warned locals involved in the scene that they risk being taken to court for obstruction of duty. This happens hours after wiper party learder kalonzo musyoka alleged that the eacc, regardless of it being a governmental institution is weaponized agaist those exercising their political rights.

“Governor natembeya is threatened as we speak; on monday, May 19, they are supposed to obtain a search warrant to search his house. The intention is to have the governor arrested, for the people of trans nzoia to see that their governor has been arrested, then he gets released. We are on the lookout if they dare arrest governor natembeya,” he warned.

As investigations continue to unfold, the arrest of george natembeya by the ethics and anti-corruption commission marks yet another high-profile move in kenya’s ongoing war against graft. The nation now watches closely as due process takes its course.
