Hon. Makali Mulu a Member of Parliament for Kitui Central has applauded the Gen Zs who were at Uhuru park on Sunday during the Saba Saba Memorial Day for maintaining peace and order.

It was a special day to honour the lives that were lost during the anti-government demonstrations. They waved Kenyan flags and carried white crosses bearing the names of those who had lost their lives.

MP Mulu stated on Monday that the Gen Zs conducted themselves orderly and peace was maintained all through. “There was no violence, you could see they were armed with their mobile phones water bottles, and some with masks,” said Mulu.

He also said that no property was destroyed that day and nobody was hurt. “They conducted themselves in a way that at the end of the day they went home, nobody was hurt no stone was thrown no shop was broken into,” Mulu added.

According to him, the destruction of properties and violence witnessed on previously should not be linked to the Gen Zs but other people who pretended to be Gen Zs because on Sunday Gen Zs conducted themselves peacefully. “All we have been seeing last week was other people who came and pretended to be part of GenZ. When they came to the streets without anyone else interfering with their arrangements they were very peaceful,” he said.

Mulu also condemned the police for throwing tear gas at the protesters on previous demonstrations emphasizing that the involved parties should think of new ways of engaging the youths.
“We would imagine the ways we have been doing things you go throwing teargas, police are there it is outdated. We need to think of a new way of engaging these young people so that we understand them,” he said.

He urged the government to listen to the youths and work together despite their political stances.
“I think this new idea of talking to them and trying to understand them is very critical if we have to move forward as a country,” Mulu added.

The demonstrations caused by the demands of the youths that have occurred for over 3 weeks have forced the president to suspended the decision to fill the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) and that the number of advisers attached to the Executive will be slashed by 50 per cent.

Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) says that at least 43 people were killed and over 600 were injured in varying degrees which is contrary to the government which claims that only 25people have been killed as 400 have been injured.

Many authorities are asking President Ruto to be held accountable for the lives lost and injured during the anti-tax and anti-government demonstrations.
