Secretary rubio emphasized that the united states supports peace efforts in Africa and reiterated u.s. assistance to Kenya’s mission in Haiti. “Mudavadi’s high-level meeting in the us follows the historic state visit by H.E president William Ruto in May 2024, the first state visit by an african leader to the us since 2008,” stated ng’etich. The United States government has re-affirmed its support to Kenya’s leadership in the multinational security support mission in haiti. This comes after prime cabinet secretary and minister for foreign and diaspora affairs, musalia mudavadi met with u.s. secretary of state, senator marco rubio in washington d.c, to discuss diplomatic and business cooperation between kenya and the united states. The meeting focused on key regional and international security issues, including briefing the united states government on the ongoing (eac) and (sadc)-led peace efforts in the drc, highlighting the importance of both nations strengthening their business ties by emphasing the need to fast-track the kenya-u.s. free trade agreement. . “on trade and investment, mudavadi will push for the expanding of economic ties, including the renewal of african growth and opportunity act (agoa) and attracting us investments to Kenya,” said jacob ng’etich, director of press service in the office of the prime cabinet secretary and the ministry of foreign and diaspora affairs. Despite the us withdrawing from the trust fund for aid earlier, mudavadi noted that the US expressed a desire to engage with Kenya’s efforts in the multinational security support mission in Haiti. In his statement following the meeting with u.s. senator Rubio, mudavadi quoted, “Sen. Rubio expressed the united states’ commitment to supporting Kenya’s leadership in addressing emerging regional security threats and promoting democratic governance across the continent and the Kenya-led multinational security support (mss) mission in Haiti.” This comes less than a year after more than 700 Kenyan police officers were deployed to Haiti for a peacekeeping operation. One police officer among those sent to Haiti was reported dead in march this year, while another went missing and his body yet to be found. “Kenya and the united states have long collaborated in advancing peace and security across the great lakes region, a partnership that remains vital for lasting stability in this dynamic area,” he stated. “I also encouraged the committee’s leadership to champion deeper economic ties by inviting US investors to explore the vast opportunities within the Kenyan market,” he added. While mudavadi emphasized the intention of US senator Marco Rubio to visit Kenya soon to further strengthen ties between the two nations, this meeting marks an important step in enhancing the long-term cooperation between Kenya and the United States of America.
